Turnbuckle body

Does anyone know where I can find a turnbuckle body like the one shown? The thread size is 5/8" and it's used on the whisker stays on an HC43. Also shown is how it (almost) failed on a Hawaii to Seattle passage.

Jim,

I would suggest you reach out to Jack Hall at Pantawee Marine (they were building HC's until recently) or the European vendor for HC (several posts on the board here), it may be whoever was supplying parts for the 33, 41, and 48's which were all still available until recently can provide you with something that will work (assuming you'll want one for the other side too). If that doesn't get it done, take the one(s) you have to a machine shop and they can produce a couple for you.

Why not replace it with a standard open body turnbuckle? A classic chromed bronze turnbuckle body should last the life of your boat and can be reused when it comes time to replace the rest of your rigging. The SS closed body ones like you have trap dirt and salt water and promote crevasse corrosion witch is why they are less common and harder to find. Try

I would agree with Frank. You should go with a open body turn buckle. We have this on our 43 and works great.

Good point, probably why it was hard finding a closed body. I'll replace both with an open body chrome-coated bronze. The original ones were SS, but bronze would be stronger also.

Steve, you mention Jack Hall was building Hans Christian up until recently. Did somthsomething happen to the company? I sent them a deposit for precut replacement teak about 6 months ago. Delivery is well overdue. I emailed and questioned him at one point and he explained he had lost two master shipwrights and was behind schedule. I have not had any more replys from him in three months now. I am starting to think I have been scammed. This is very unusual for him, he and his daughter had always been very responsive. Mike
