HART tank monitors longevity

Postby edelweiss » Wed Feb 23, 2011 6:31 pm

Has anyone had this tank monitoring sytem for a while and how is it holding up? Any problems?

If anyone has put these on a HC38 T which tanks did you monitor and where did you place the penetration on the tank?

Thanks for your reply

Although I have not yet installed one, reports I have heard are that they are failure proof.
These systems work on very low air pressure. The only critical part is the pressure measuring gauge, which, IIRC, is a bourdon tube based device. This tube is one of the oldest ways of measuring pressure with a gauge, and they are pretty tough. The other moving parts are extremely simple. there is a small manifold for selecting the air tube, and a small thumb-actuated pump to put some pressure in that tube. You pump until you reach maximum pressure. It is impossible to overpump; the tube just pushes bubbles out the bottom. The fuller the tank, the higher the final pressure reading, but each tank requires its own calibration scale.

They could not be simpler or more robust, and the Hart family stands behind their products.

I'll put one in one of these days. Now where did I put that Round Tuit ?

Thank you for these reports. Thats very helpful
I havent gotten that far yet. There never seems to be enough time to get everything done. My day job seems to get in the way.
Im still using a very unsatisfying dip stick stick method while monitoring my engine hours. Several times my Port tank measures near empty and when I have added fuel it took on much less than it should have.
