Galley sink drains

Hello from R&G "vagabond blues"
We are wondering what the standard is for the galley sink drains, and if anyone can suggest an improvement on the standard.
On our HC38T the bottom of the sinks seem to be only about an inch or so above the water line, so there is always water gurgling back up into the sinks when the seacock is open, at anchor for example.
Any great ideas out there that someone has put into practice???

Just a thought, but perhaps a bronze check valve could work.

I believe the vast majority of HC's have the drain very close to the waterline. You could always go with a shallower sink, or use a waste pump and holding tank but that just seems like it would complicate things. The check valve would work but from experience I think you would see a slow seeping and rise of the water level and I wonder how many noodles it would take to choke the valve into non-compliance.

If you find that when you arrive at the boat the water level is fine in the sink but after using it it stays annoyingly high, try flushing the sink with salt water after each use, or when the level bothers you. We have found that the fresh water, which is lighter, can actually sit 1/2 to 1" above the normal level of the drain water for hours before it subsides. On our 43' we have a salt water pump located at the sink so this is not a problem to just rinse with salt when the washing is done.

Thanks for your response, all your suggestions seem to be quite viable.
Im currently looking at a manual bilge pump as an option, as it also has a non return valve incorporated into it.
How does that sound to you??

Thanks for your response, But I do believe that a check valve on its own, would clog up pretty quickly.
What I have decided to do is to put in a manual bilge pump witch incorporates a check valve into the line, this will force the waste water out and with a rise in the pipe after the pump it will stop the waste from flowing back.
Once I have put it into practice I will post the result.

Consider using a macerator instead of a bilge pump. This is what I had on my 48, consider it a garbage disposal for a boat. Works like a charm. It was installed past the second sink, so it addresses both sinks with a single unit. Some macerators may have a built-in check valve as well (not sure).

Thanks for your suggestion!!
I had considered that option, but as I we weren't quite sure if it would work, we decided to try the substantially cheaper option first. But, have not tried it yet so, thanks to your response, and your confirmation that it works well, we now bite the bullet and put in a macerater pump in the system.
