My HC has a salt water and a fresh water lift pump as per the attached picture neither of which work. I've tried forcing water back down them in an attempt to wet the (leather?) diaphragm which may have dried out and not give a good seal, but no good.
So after an exhaustive search for a box spanner that fits to get the back nut off and remove the tap (it's a Whitworth size not metric) I got the nut off but the tap still refuses to budge! Yes I've hit it really hard with a lump hammer via a block of wood, it may be a granite work top but I think I'm pushing my luck hitting it harder, and frankly flat on my back reaching around the basin I think I'ld struggle to hit it harder.
It seems like the back nut doesn't actually hold it on. It's like the whole under counter section of the tap is screwed into the section. This idea is reinforced by the fact it's not just the pump lever that can rotate, but if you grab the tap spout that rotates as well. The brass flange remains static on the worktop but the whole tap rotates on what is obviously an internal thread.
One would imaging if the tap barrel could be rotated round and round it would simply unscrew from the flange/back nut arrangement on the counter, but of course you can't do that as the tap spout hits the teak back wall. The spout itself cannot be unscrewed although it looks like it's soldered/braised onto the body of the tap, maybe this could be heated and removed?
Anyone with any bright ideas?
