Apple's Mac computers for navigation

Is it still not a good idea to go with Mac for navigation?
As for the hardware itself, the Mac Mini looks like it was built for sailing. Very small, energy efficient, wireless everything, remote and you choose your own monitor. I've heard about one good plotting program (GPS navX) but the rest is still unknown to me. Anyone of you went this way?
