Puget Sound (Salish Sea) Area Meet Up - Spring 2018

Postby radnroo » Tue Nov 07, 2017 3:03 am

Puget Sound Area Hans Christian Sailors, let's meet up! 2018!
I am happy to organize this, but would love to work with everyone's preferences so we can get as much participation as possible. So, please comment with:
a) your interest
b) preferred month
c) preferred location
d) should we anchor out or try to fit in a marina?
Also, if you are aware of a local HC owner who isn't in this group, please relay this and ask for their preferences as well. I will post in the owners association site as well.
We're looking forward to this already!

Excellent John! We have this posted on the Hans Christian Facebook page as well and have similar responses. I think there are are about 5 who have indicated interest there and everyone is leaning toward early May and Poulsbo seems to be the most popular location so far, so not far at all from Keyport! We will keep the requests for response up for a while longer before we make any official plans, so stay tuned!
BTW - If you are on Facebook at all, the page is https://www.facebook.com/groups/21061206814/

We are in. Port Ludlow is always a great place for a rendezvous. Plenty of protected anchorage and transient slip spaces available. Maybe a little more convenient for the neighbors to the north.

Edelweiss with Mark and Leah would like to join you. We are planning a 6 week haul out in April May but can either squeeze it in or show up with pictures to prove our dedication. We're in Bainbridge now but plan to haul out in POrt Townsend so any of those places mentioned will work.

Madrona is interested. And excited. May sounds great to us. We are on Vashon, and game to meet anywhere,....except Vashon, it wouldn't be as fun. No Facebook for me but I'll keep watching the post.

Hi all! Well, we are about 2 month away from our 2018 Puget Sound/Salish Sea Hans Christian Rendezvous! Although we have a great amount of interest in this, I haven't received much feedback on what we want to do, so I have put a schedule together that I think will keep it simple and keep it fun! Please see below and let me know if you have any questions. This is completely fluid, so if you have any other ideas or preferences, please feel free to voice them.

2018 Puget Sound/Salish Sea Hans Christian Rendezvous

When: May 4th - May 6th

Where: Liberty Bay / Poulsbo (Next year maybe the San Jauns? I figure we can alternate between northern and southern Salish Sea, but hopefully everyone (north or south) will join in!) We will NOT be mooring at the dock, although that is still an option for anyone who prefers to. The group will be rafting up in the middle of the bay, hopefully wagon wheel style if we have enough join us.

Tides and Hazards: No real hazards. Mind the reduced speed limit market at the entrance to the bay.

Tide/Current 2018-05-04 Fri
04:19 PDT 0.0 knots Slack, Flood Begins
05:42 PDT 0.2 knots Max Flood
05:48 PDT Sunrise
07:14 PDT -0.0 knots Slack, Ebb Begins
07:36 PDT 9.73 feet High Tide
09:12 PDT Moonset
12:11 PDT -0.8 knots Max Ebb
14:37 PDT -0.24 feet Low Tide
15:36 PDT 0.0 knots Slack, Flood Begins
18:39 PDT 0.8 knots Max Flood
20:27 PDT Sunset
Tide/Current 2018-05-06 Sun
05:45 PDT Sunrise
07:24 PDT -0.0 knots Min Ebb
09:05 PDT 8.56 feet High Tide 10:56 PDT Moonset
13:42 PDT -0.7 knots Max Ebb
16:10 PDT 0.84 feet Low Tide 17:09 PDT 0.0 knots Slack, Flood Begins
20:16 PDT 0.7 knots Max Flood
20:30 PDT Sunset

What to bring: We will be pot-lucking for all (3) group events, so please bring 1 of each of the following (enough to feed about 6 -10 should do - I do NOT think we will go hungry during this weekend!). Also, due to Cinco De Mayo falling in the middle of this weekend, it is suggested (NOT REQUIRED - none of this is required!) that your contributions keep the Mexican theme in mind.

1 Appetizer
1 Dessert
1 Specialty Alcoholic Drink (This CAN be a Corona or glass of wine... What ever you want to contribute - If you have a specialty, show it off!)
1 Main Dish, Side Dish or Salad
1 Breakfast item
YOUR BOAT - Although, even that is not required!*

In addition, if you have anything else you want to contribute to the group, please feel free to. It would be great if you could let me know in advance so that we can coordinate, but, again, that is not required... Catching the theme?

What we will do:

Friday:
Throughout the day: Meetup and Raft Up - If we have enough boats we will raft up in a wagon wheel. If not, we will raft up side to side. We will have to make that determination as we arrive. Either way, hopefully we have all arrived by 4pm on Friday. As close to 4pm as possible we will count off and designate EVEN and ODD boats.
4 - 6 pm All EVEN numbered boats will host an Open Boat Happy Hour - If you are designated as an EVEN boat, please serve your appetizer and drink as those on ODD numbered boats visit you and your boat and get to know you better!
6 - 7 pm Break for dinner on your own if you so desire.
7 - 9 pm All ODD numbered boats will host an Open Boat Dessert. If you are designated as an ODD Boat, please serve your dessert and drink as those on the EVEN numbered boats visit you and your boat and get to know you better!

Saturday:
Hang out aboard or explore the town on your own most of the day.
4 - ? pm - Cinco de Mayo Fiesta!!!! We have the Port of Poulsbo Floating Multi-Purpose Room for the evening. I figured this way we can hang out and celebrate in a sheltered group setting without having to talk over the top of all of the other Cinco de Mayo partiers in the restaurants. Please bring your appetizer (for those who were on the ODD numbered boats on Friday) or dessert (for those that were on the EVEN numbered boats on Friday) along with any drinks you have left over, and your Main, Side or Salad. Please bring anything you would like to share with the group. This room has a projector screen and we have a projector on board, so if you have a presentation you'd like to share, we should be set.

Sunday:
Breakfast - Not sure where... I think we could technically do this again in the multi purpose room or, if the weather is nice, perhaps in the park...? In any case, we can decide on that later. But please bring your breakfast item (we will supply coffee) and join in as we gather each others contact info and say "see ya on the water" to our new found friends.

*NO BOAT REQUIRED/HC Owner Land Cruisers WELCOME:
For those whose boat is too far away or not yet in traveling shape, please do not think you are not welcome! We can coordinate for room aboard one of the attending vessels, there are rooms easily available in the town of Poulsbo, and, if nothing else, you can at least join us for Saturday Evening's Cinco de Mayo Fiesta! Please PM me for ideas to ensure as many as possible are able to attend!

Can't wait to see everyone!

S/V Avec will be attending.

We're a kid boat (3 year old and 4 year old) so we may be serving up some episodes of Peppa Pig along with our margaritas.

Cheers!

One of us ended up having to work this morning, off around noon but we have to pump out before we head out. ETA for us is 3:30. Also, on the Facebook side a couple are indicating that they would prefer docking. We'll play it by ear as we arrive. We will monitor both hcoa and fb as well as vhf. Call out "HC Salish Sea" on the hailing stations and we'll answer (if we hear you) and switch to 68. Text or FB PM is best though - Please text us with any Qs 360-340-4312.

It was so wonderful meeting new friends with other Hans Christian Owners this weekend! 5 boats in all attended (well, 6 if you count our mascot, the poor, sad NAIAD) There were two 38s and THREE 43s. The oldest was a 1978 and the newest was a 1987. It was interesting to see how the designs and layouts changed over the years. Many tips and tricks and resources were shared, as well as a healthy dose of commiseration. It was so nice to spend time with others who love their boats as much as we do, never-ending project list and all! Stay tuned... We all agreed that we should do this again next year and hope to see twice as many boats attending next year! Here are a few photos from the weekend some from John on SV Stardust. Thanks for the great shots, John! Some from us. The site will only let me add 5 at a time, so I will and a few posts with pics.
