Pex Tubing

I am replacing fittings and hoses for the water system on my HC 38. One vendor suggested using “Whale Pex Tubing”. He states this is common on new boats. I am not familiar with this product and using internet search engines I found this system might require more complex hose fittings.
When cruising, I’m thinking more parts and tools to carry on board for repairs/modifications!

Does this product have any value over the standard hose systems?

Also, are their benefits in using copper fuel lines (original HC equip) over fuel grade hose?

Hi Bill,

My knowledge of PEX is that it's very flexible, good for hot/cold applictions, and can expand well beyond it's size to accomodate freezing. It's been used in Europe for over 25 years, so it may be more common than other alternatives you're considering from a cruising perspective.

A live-aboard friend of mine used PEX for his forced hot water Hurricane heating system and he's had no issues with it.
