Hi All,
After 30+ years, it appears we are about to do some more major work on our 1980 Pathfinder (VW Rabbit) 1.5L diesel. Since we bought the boat in 1980, I've replaced the black steel wet-lift (exhaust mixing) box once with a custom-welded duplicate. I've also epoxy coated most of the inside and epoxy/fiberglass coated the outsides of the box -- the cool portions which are after the coolant mixes with the hot exhaust. The hot portion--the exhaust riser with mixing injection tube--is wrapped in high-temperature insulation. Those who have seen the 'black steel box' know that it is a single-piece semi-custom solution: the exhaust riser, water injection Y, and box are a single welded piece which connects to the engine at the exhaust manifold and with a welded tab which bolts into the back of the bell housing.
Anyway, I'm wanting to convert over to a non-corrosive alternative such as a Vernalift or equivalent. The part I'm not sure about where to obtain would be the exhaust lift leading to the mixing nipple--in short, dry portion of the exhaust leading to where the water mixes in. Thereafter, the cooler mixed exhaust can use suitable hose to reach the wet-left and so on.
Any ideas about where one can find an exhaust riser/mixer elbow that is compatible with the exhaust manifold of a typical VW rabbit diesel?
(Excuse my terminology--I might not be using the exact correct terms for some of these exhaust components.)
