Packing size

Packing size

Anyone knows what packing size fits best?
I have the old one on hand but I can't figure out what size it is exactly?

3/16" looks small
1/4" seems right
5/16" maybe too tight

Yanmar 3QM30FG
1-1/4" shaft

Well, I did use goretex 1/4". I had the feeling that it was a bit loose (very easy to fit in) but it seems to be performing quite well.
