Telstar 38

I am replacing my stern gear on a Telstar 38 she has a shaft that is joined just in front of the stuffing box, a bit strange but it looks original and is well and truly stuck on, anyone else had this problem? Solution?

You may have already overcome this issue, if not post a picture. I have a 43 with a bearing between the engine and the stuffing box, perhaps that is what you are seeing?
