Another option to a para anchor is the series drogue which I believe was seriously tested by the US coastguard & given a good write up. The criticism I have is that it MUST be deployed over the stern, personally I don't favour this tactic, ok the HC's has a canoe stern which should lift & part the seas but I don't fancy the thoughts of gertting big seas on board over the stern filling the cockpit, possibly stoving in the companionway doors. The other concern is the huge strain on the rudder with water rushing past it as the wave passes under you, if the rudder is hard over against the stops it must put an unimaginable strain on the stock - I doubt it would be possible to secure the rudder amidships to preven this in heavy conditions.
