John et al, I replaced the shaft on my my '83 ketch four years ago because of to severe crevice corrosion at the stuffing box (due to deoxygenated water sitting in the stern tube for months at a time, as a result of the engine never being run by the previous owner.) The pillow block I used was an off-the-shelf item from a local bearing supplier and set me back something like $22. I didn't go with a stainless unit since the balls and raceways of a standard unit are all hardened anyway, largely making it corrosion proof. In addition, all standard pillow block bearings in this size range come equipped with a grease fitting, which of course you should use. And Mark, my shaft length was 13'9"... let me tell you, that much 1 1/2" Aquamet doesn't come cheap
