Cruising Mexico-Need Advice

Starting in mid-February, my sailing buddies and I are taking a large sailboat from San Diego to La Paz, Mexico. We could use some advice. It looks like a pretty long stretch from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas. We see only 2 obvious harbors that look pretty safe in a blow. Are there places along this coast line that anyone would recommend that we visit? We are looking for safe anchorages with interesting things to see ashore. Any we should stay away from?
